Hollywood acting legend Robert De Niro has decided to put his money in De Benegal’s ‘Road, Movie’ starring Abhay Deol in the main lead.

The actors company Tribeca Film, is owned by de Niro’s Tribeca Enterprises has snapped up the movie for mainstream distribution in the US.

‘Road, Movie’, an independent Indian production, has made a breakthrough by impressing the rigid American trade. ‘Road, Movie’ is no novice to fame though, having made it as the official selection at top international film festivals like Toronto, Tokyo, Doha, and Berlin. In Cannes 2009 it became the first Hindi-language film to be taken up by international sales giant, Fortissimo Films.

Tanuj Garg, Head of International Business at Studio 18, confirmed the news. Indian Films’s CEO Sandeep Bhargava said, “Road, Movie has truly crossed over.” Interestingly, ‘Road, Movie’ will first have a video on demand launch in the US along with the Tribeca Film Festival and then expand to theatrical and home entertainment rights among others.
